Why?

In the 2000's I broke up with my fiancee.  At that point I knew I wasn't going to go the normal route of 2.5 kids, and if I couldn't find the love of my life and raise children together, I needed something to make worth living.

So I decided I wasn't going to be boring, I was going to be interesting.   Bored? Forget it.  I wanted excitement.  I vowed to try a new thing every week for the entire year!

That lasted a week.

By the end of the month I figured out that on my salary, with my schedule, I could realistically manage one new thing every month. I managed to that for that year - and about half of the next one.  Since then I aim for one a season or so - it is getting harder to find new things to do.  I have done this now more than 40 times and am hoping to hit 50 - one for every week of the year.  Note, several of my 'new things' are combined into one blog entry, as swing, salsa, tango, blues etc. are similar enough that if you dislike one, you will dislike the rest and if you like one, you will like the others.

I have discovered a lot of other people doing similar things.   People that love to try strange and usual hobbies.

And I've had a lot of fun along the way.  Come join us.
